There are the hadiths which state that, 'women are deficient in intellectand religion'.

It is interesting to see what the early scholars of Islam said about this hadith. They said,

"The prophet was teasing or joking with the women present in the incident,and that the statement 'deficient in intellect and religion' was intended as a pun (fa kana al-rasul yatalattaf maahum)"
